I’m keeping the car. Georges bought it in the mid 90s from a fellow up in Chertsey. It was wallowing away in an old barn. I followed him home, with my wipers running constantly to clear the oil spattered on my windshield. This 1973 all white (and rusty) MGB became Georges’s all consuming passion to completely rebuild while I was posted on a time consuming and stressful software implementation project at work, which lasted a year and a half.
Georges logged more than 700 hours on the car, he even bought a welding machine to fix the chassis and other parts of the car. He even had burn spots on his belly to show for it! I still have the photo album showing the progress. Back in the late 60s, Georges raced an MGB for Amico, a racing team owned by Jacques Lemieux. At the time, it was a red and white car. Eventually, it was painted silver and grey, owned and driven by the late Cam Hanson. Georges fell in love with this combination, and even though it seemed to be a no-no to paint an MGB in two tones, he went ahead with it.
Georges was a jack-of-all-trades. He completely rebuilt our first house in Richelieu, spending every weekend and weeknight working on it. He could also fix any electrical or plumbing problem that came along. On his last day of life, July 19, 2020, just a few short hours before his heart attack, he fixed Marc’s lawnmower. But, his all time proudest achievement was his MGB.
Our little car has gotten us to the Charlevoix, Cape Cod, Toronto, and multiple other destinations over the years. It was a common love of ours, and will always be an important part of my life. One day, hopefully in the far future, I will hand it over to my son Marc, who treasures it as one of his Dad’s legacies.

Oui, je vais garder la voiture. Georges l'avait acheté au milieu des années 90 d'un type habitant Chertsey. Elle moisissait dans une vieille grange. Je l'ai suivi jusqu'à la maison, mes essuie-glaces tentant de nettoyer l'huile qui revolait sur mon pare-brise. Cette MGB blanche et rouillée de 1973 est devenue la passion incontournable de Georges qui l'a complètement refaite, pendant que je bossais sur un projet d'informatique important et stressant au bureau qui s'est étendu sur un an et demi.
Georges a passé plus de 700 hres sur ce projet, s'achetant même une machine à souder pour le chassis et autres pièces. Au point ou même son ventre portait même ds traces de brulures! J'ai encore toutes les photos témoignant des progrè accomplis. Dans les années 60, Georges coursait sur une MGB pour Amico, appartenant alors à Jacques Lemieux. Sa voiture était rouge et blanche. Éentuellement elle fut repeinte argent et gris, appartenant et conduite par feu Cam Henson. Georges devint amoureux de ces couleurs et même si il est presque tabou de peindre deux couleurs sur une MG, il l'a fait!
Georges était un homme à tout faire. Il a complètement refait notre première maison à Richelieu, y passant ses soirées et ses week-ends. Il pouvait régler n'importe quel problème électrique ou de plomberie. Le 19 juillet 2020, quelques heures avant son arrêt cardiovasculaire mortel, il avait réparé la tondeuse de Marc. Mais de tout temps, la réalisation de son projet de MGB est ce qui le rendait le plus fier.
Notre petite voiture nous a amené à Charlevoix, à Cape Cod, à Toronto, et à tant d'autres destinations au cours des ans. Nous l'aimions tous les deux et celle-ci sera toujours importante dans ma vie. Un jour, le plus tard possible, je la céderai à Marc mon fils, pour qui elle fait partie de l'héritage de son père.

Un témoignage poignant pour une voiture spéciale. Une autre preuve que nos MG font ultimement partie de nos familles. Cette MGB a toute une histoire à raconter et en ajoutera encore de nombreux chapitres entre les mains de Susan! Encore une fois merci du partage Susan!
